The column was erected in AD 113 to commemorate the emperor Trajan’s victory in the Dacian Wars. The font was created by Jason Smith, a college student who copied the stone lettering from the cast on display in London’s Victoria & Albert Museum.
It is a serif font with a wide, upright letterform. The serifs are short and slightly curved, and the terminals are squared off. The font has a strong presence and is well-suited for use in headlines, titles, and logos.
